Dyna Lee Smith South

Andrew Kyle Richburg

Dyna Lee Smith South, born on November 18, 1946, journeyed into eternal rest on January 2, 2024 after sudden complications with pneumonia. Her life was an embodiment of unwavering faith, boundless love, and profound dedication to her family, her friends, and her faith. Lee worked at Mother Angelica’s Eternal Word Television Network, where she served as a producer since 1996. She attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, and her commitment to her faith was the guiding light for all aspects of her life. Her love and trust in Jesus and Mary and the Communion of Saints sustained her through life's joys and challenges. She was in awe of God’s Love for her, and it was her honor to share it with whomever she came across in life. Lee South never met a stranger! She made everyone feel important and loved.

Lee is survived by her beloved children and their spouses: Paul Greenwood (Kristen), Joshua South (Rebecca), Kathryn Opal South (Kirk Walker). Her love touched the lives of her niece, Leesie Ballew, with whom she shared a special bond. She was a pillar of love to her grandchildren, Jackson, Sebastian, George, and Evelyn, whose lives she enriched with her affection for music and dance, games and play. She adored her stepchildren, Chris South, David South, Melanie McCrackin, and Megan Blanchard, and their families and children, and she always looked forward to the next celebration to bring everyone together. She is also survived by her sister Lynne Ballew.

While our hearts ache with her sudden loss, we find solace in the cherished memories and the profound teachings of grace, generosity, and loyalty she bestowed upon us. Lee’s life was a testament to the value of friendship and all the joy, laughter, and healing it brings. She was fond of saying at family gatherings, “I feel sorry for anyone who’s not us!” May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the heavenly embrace of God, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, including her husband Ned South and her niece Savai Rio. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, Alabama on Saturday, January 6th, with visitation beginning at 11am and funeral mass at 12pm. The family suggests that donations in Lee’s memory be made to Eternal Word Television Network, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, or the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, whose concerts Lee loved attending.
