Tommy “Tom” Carroll Thomason

Tommy “Tom” Carroll Thomason, 75, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away at the home he loved and into the loving arms of our Creator on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Tom was born on March 16, 1948 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. After Tom graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1966, he went on to earn his degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and then to obtain his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Tom was a loyal and devoted asset to his career and colleagues at Pinnacle Engineering, Inc.

Tom was married to the love of his life, Rachel, for nearly 20 years. He loved his children, stepdaughters and 8 grandchildren dearly. Tom was loved by so many and enjoyed making connections with everyone he met. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and lightheartedness. He always welcomed a long chat, good story or funny joke. Some of his favorite hobbies included reading, golfing, cheering on his Tennessee Vols and spending weekend mornings at the neighborhood “finishing hole,” as he called it. Tom particularly loved books by author Randy Wayne White set in south Florida. Those led to many vacations on Sanibel Island with Rachel. There they met and spent time with dear friends known as their “Sanibel family.”

Tom was preceded in death by his father Billy Barkstell Thomason in 2003. He is survived by his devoted wife Rachel Jones Thomason, his mother Emma “Sue” Thomason and sister Trena (Jeff) Caldwell of Dyersburg, Tennessee, daughter Erin (Keith) Moore of Maitland, Florida, son Grant and daughter-in-law Danielle of Birmingham, Alabama, stepdaughters Lindsay (Scott) Walker of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kristin (Neil) Pratt of Brentwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by his grandchildren – Harrison Moore, Elizabeth Anne Moore, Sophia Thomason, Jack Thomason, Alli Walker, Logan Walker, David Pratt and Shelby Pratt. Tom loved his many cousins, nieces and nephews as well.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at CrossBridge Church, 3039 Brook Highland Pkwy, Birmingham, AL 35242. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a service at 2:45 pm.
